Ingrid DeGreef’s involvement and passion for the Colorado Children’s Chorale began 11 years ago when her 4th grade daughter Katherine brought home a flyer and asked if she could audition. This started a family journey that continues today with Ingrid joining the Chorale’s Board of Trustees this past spring. Ingrid has witnessed first hand what an impact the Chorale makes on the community and what outstanding experiences and development it provides for the youth in the greater Denver Metro area. She was greatly moved by the life lessons Katherine gained from her experience in the Chorale – lessons that continue to guide her to this day!
Music was part of Ingrid’s youth as well, though growing up in a rural town in Montana made it a little more difficult to pursue that passion. Piano was her instrument of choice; she appreciated her mother’s diligence to keep her practicing, and she continued piano through college. It was in light of this vital encouragement that Ingrid became interested in helping youth reach their potential. She has been involved with numerous youth activities including Girl Scouts, FIRST Robotics, and reading programs with the Mile High United Way.
Ingrid is originally from southwestern Montana and after college became a weather officer in the US Air Force. This ultimately led to a career at Lockheed Martin’s Aerospace Divison here in Denver where she is an Engineering Manager. Although the aerospace industry isn’t exactly musical, studies have shown that having musical training in a child’s early years helps them with math and science as they grow older. It is also an industry requiring discipline and attention to detail and service to the customers and the community – all areas in which the Chorale excels. Ingrid recognizes the incredible benefit of learning at a very young age the value of dedication, excellence, and professionalism.
Ingrid lives in Centennial with her husband, Leo (also a Chorale supporter!!) Ingrid and Leo enjoy hiking, skiing, traveling, and occasional trips with their daughter, Katherine, when she has a spare moment from college. Katherine, a 2005 Chorale alum, is completing her senior year in Electrical Engineering at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, and is “pretty pumped” her mom is getting to experience a small part of the organization that shaped her childhood.
