Carol is in her first year serving on the Colorado Children’s Chorale Board of Trustees. She is grateful for the incredible work ethic and ambition of the Chorale staff, and feels privileged to be selected to help maintain the Chorale’s success, and to be a part of shaping its future.
Carol and her husband, David, along with their two teenaged sons, discovered the Colorado Children’s Chorale at The Colorado Symphony’s 2004 Christmas Concert. Knowing that Derek wanted to join a choir, Carol signed Derek up for an audition in the spring. Carol quickly fell in love with the Chorale—the kids, performances, culture, and leadership. A childhood musician herself, Carol had the opportunity to perform in fine youth orchestras and bands as a child. She was forever touched by the profound experience of being a part of making the music while performing in an excellent musical group. Carol quickly recognized that the Chorale was providing this experience to her children, and that the organization shares the same values with which she was raised by her youth orchestra-conducting father. A focus on hard work, commitment, discipline, and excellence results in astounding performances and experiences for these children.
Derek started Chorale in Apprentice Choir in 5th-grade, graduating from National Tour in 8th-grade. He was privileged to perform with the inaugural Transitions Choir, which was just an experiment that first year. If you haven’t had the opportunity to hear these exceptional young men and women perform, you must find an opportunity to do so. This “experiment” is a great success! Derek’s opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant has been a gentle entrée into the work environment, and has provided great life lessons.
Devin started Chorale in Prep Choir in 2nd-grade, and is currently performing in National Tour Choir. He jumped on the opportunity to tour Canada with the first Festival Singers, and will also travel to Italy and Austria this June, with the 2012 Festival Singers. Carol is grateful for the challenge, discipline, friendships, and performance and touring opportunities that have been provided to her children through the Chorale. She loves attending all the events, and follows them on tour when she can.
Carol entered the workforce as a Software Engineer for IBM Federal Systems in Boulder, and currently works for Northrop Grumman in Aurora as a Lead Manager in the Engineering organization.
For fun, Carol and Dave enjoy attending the Performing Arts. They attend shows and events of all kinds at the Denver Performing Arts Center and other theaters around the area. There is unlikely to be a public Chorale performance where Carol is not in attendance. In combination with this love for shows, Carol and Dave enjoy gourmet food and cooking, wine tasting, and traveling. Some day, when things are not so busy, Carol hopes to get back to skiing, and playing flute, violin, and piano, which are favorite hobbies from an earlier time in her life.
