BRAVO to all 2012 Colorado All-State Choir participants, but especially to our Children’s Chorale alums! The concert was excellent, from start to finish, displaying the talents of over 450 high school choral singers from around the state, each one a tribute to their director.
Colorado All-State Choir has been in existence for over fifty years. For any high school choral singer in their junior and senior years, it is the “super bowl” of achievements. The audition is challenging, and the competition stiff. Once accepted, each member is responsible for learning and memorizing their music and they are tested when they arrive at the first rehearsal. They then rehearse and perform under the baton of a nationally known conductor, usually currently teaching at the college level. This year’s guest conductors were Dr. Janet Galvan, Professor of Music at Ithaca College; Dr. Jamie Spillane, associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Roberts Wesleyan College in New York; and Cristian Grases, Interim Director of Choral Activities at Central Washington University.
We are very proud that so many of our alums are accepted into All-State Choir each year. And now we can add choral directors to that list, with alums Garlyn Saddler Bello (Englewood HS), Stephen Ross (Skyline HS), and Janay Hagan (Erie HS) training their students for this prestigious honor.
We salute the following alums:
|All-State Women’s Choir||All-State Men’s Choir|
|Molly Bedard, Lakewood HS||James Bragg, Littleton HS|
|Makenzie Cohen, Cherry Creek HS||Slide Kelly, Colorado Academy|
|Maud Darger, Arvada West HS|
