Each month, we introduce you to a member of the Chorale’s Board of Trustees, a group of women and men dedicated to serving the Chorale in a leadership capacity. This month, meet Kim Taussig.
Kim Taussig’s first encounter with the Colorado Children’s Chorale was at a school show several years ago in Limon, CO. Her oldest daughter, Claire, was a student who benefited from a workshop with Tour Choir and local school children. At the end of the day, Kim spoke with Debbie DeSantis about their success and has never forgotten Debbie’s reply that “kids will do what’s expected of them.”
Kim and her husband Dave were pleased to find out that their younger daughter Libby could audition for the Chorale, despite living outside the Denver metro area. “We thought that it was a Denver metro choir so we didn’t know we could get involved.” Libby did audition, was accepted, and had the “experiences of a lifetime” during her six years in the Chorale.
In 2001, after spending 20 years in the banking industry, Kim fulfilled a lifelong dream of having her own business. She operated a women’s gift shop for seven years, while chauffeuring Libby to and from Denver for rehearsals and performances. She has closed her shop, but remains active on several boards around the Limon area and is quite involved in their church. Kim pursues her passion for music by directing two choirs in the Limon community.
This is Kim’s first year as a trustee. “What we didn’t realize at the time that Libby received her acceptance letter was the fact that Dave and I would also have some of the best experiences of our lives because of our involvement with the Chorale. I feel that it is a huge honor to be on the Board of Trustees and I am full of gratitude to the Chorale for enriching our lives. It has been a wonderful adventure!”
